Well, I really did try one new thing a day on my trip in Aruba, and sometimes when you try new things, they lead you on a completely different adventure…….
This was a day we wanted to horseback ride at sunset, such a lovely idea, we even had our own private tourguide. However, when we arrived at the ranch, the horseman was nowhere to be found……..our lovely half -deaf driver, did the best he could, and after you watch this video you will see, where God closes one door, he leaves another one OPEN……. click play to understand how……
Just when you thought all L.A. parties were full of Paris Hiltons and Lindsay Lohans, you have not seen a REAL party here in L.A……. and you have never been to the party scene I am a part of.
This is what really goes on at a good party in Los Angeles.
We gather. We sing, we play instruments…..and of course have sick talent that is just too amazing for words….
So Do something new and try this at your next party, oh, and by the way, when someone comments on how cool it is that you have a piano, that is musician code for “CAN I PLAY FOR YOU????”
If you just have a few people around the piano, you might be surprised at how many people can sing and how fun it is to pretend you are one of them!!!
This is one of my all time favorite things to do……..so enjoy a 2 minute version of a 6 hour sing-a-long night I really hope it inspires you to live life to the fullest, which in my world, involves singing your HEART out!!!!
click play and enjoy!!! ( and forgive that I was way too close to my i-phone video camera)
Well here in Texas I am looking for something new to eat. BUT this new thing had nothing to do with Texas, in fact the fish I tried here is only found in the North Pacific. Still, I never had it before, and this is my favorite thing about it when I looked up what I actually ate….
In popular culture
Sablefish made an appearance in the HBO comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (Season 5, Episode 1) as an ingredient in the “Larry David sandwich” sold at a local delicatessen. The full recipe of the sandwich included whitefish, sable, capers, onions & cream cheese, and it sold for $8.95.
nuff said. If it was on my FAVORITE show “Curb your Enthusiasm” and was in Larry David’s Sandwich, even better.
OK my favorite dessert in the world is a SMORE. But I decided this year, why wait till I go camping?? I can do this at home…….can’t I??? Well, Press play and see if doing one SMORE thing was a good idea……
Okay so maybe this is a lame one, but turning 40 is truly a NEW thing for me to do. Not to mention scary…..now I am actually looking at things differently….like…ummm… well, maybe not, but I get to at least say “Listen here you, at 39 I would– but at 40 I do not have to…….” you fill in the blank. I even used this excuse to not blog every day on my fab. birthday trip…however, I still did something new everyday, and now I have to double up my posts to keep up with my commitment of doing one new thing a day for each day of 2010. So bear with me here. There are some good ones, some fun ones, some goofy ones, and some easy ones….but they are ALL new to me and I HOPE you try at least some of them. Anyway, I spent my birthday week in Palm Springs and then Joshua Tree with some of my favorite people in the world. I was constantly surrounded by my best friends the whole trip. The sun shined on me while I was away (literally and figuratively) and I booked 2 big jobs–one was a commercial (for CLEAR internet) and another one was a HUGE infomercial working with BILL PHILLIPS who wrote the best seller “BODY FOR LIFE”. I actually got that call on my birthday, like the acting gods for once took pity on a 40 year old “between gigs” actor. I am now officially working, or at least soon getting PAID for it. The name of the book Bill Phillips is promoting (with the help of his FABULOUS co-host ) is called “Transformation“…and entering 40 I think it is a VERY appropriate name. Actually combine the 2 commercials and the message might be that I have earned a CLEAR TRANSFORMATION. SO, let’s raise our glass to doing NEW THINGS after 40…I hope you keep joining me for the ride. It will be a transformation I promise. And if it isn’t I can Probably get you a discount on Bill Phillips new book and you can take notes
Okay my favorite comedian of all time is Eddie Izzard. I have seen him many times, and each time is better than the last. I watched his career rise in the past 10 years. He is now in movies and on TV shows and becoming a bigger and bigger star. If you do not know of him you are missing out!!! He started his career dressed as a “transvestite” or as he likes to say “executive transvestite“ Which explains why my dad does not like him at all. Eddie now dresses normal and his humor is still brilliant….although I do miss the lipstick and eyeliner I had gotten used to seeing him wear.
I have seen him with 100 other Izzzard fans 10 years ago in a small club in L.A. but now he is filling stadiums and it is not so easy to get a ticket. I once even met him after the show and got the chance to hang out with him for a bit then even went to a movie with him and about 8 others….I purposely sat next to him, and watched him (as I ate my popcorn,) rather than the movie. I do love his mind, his intelligence, his humor, and any man that can look good in heels and still keep me attracted, is well, an anomalie to say the least.
Anyway, my NEW THING TODAY was to arrive at his sold out show at the NOKIA in Los Angeles, with NO ticket, and see what it would be like to scalp a ticket. I had never bought a ticket from a scalper before, and had no idea what to expect. As you can imagine, the scalpers did NOT want me to video them, and it all happened so fast I didn’t even have time to pull out my camera. I do know I was NOT very discreet. I walked around with my friend Josh Fingerhut, and suddenly a man popped out and said softly “tickets…who needs tickets…” My excitement overtook me and I screamed “ME!! ME!! RIGHT HERE!! I DO!! I NEED TICKETS!! ARE YOU A SCALPER???” He slowly backed away as he whispered….”I’ll be on the corner if you want some.” Then he disappeared. I ran around trying to find my scalper for about 20 minutes. I only had 50 bucks, but after we heard his offer, Josh and I agreed it was a deal we could NOT refuse.
This video is just MOMENTS after the purchase. I was proud. I have now touched the dark side of ticket land. And I liked it. Oh yeah, and Eddie Izzard was BRILLIANT again. As always.
Well, one NEW thing to do here at SUNDANCE is to find a famous person and get them on camera and then get a picture with them. I have never done this before ……and although there many famous people here in L.A. I think that at SUNDANCE , it might be a bit easier to corner someone I began the day not knowing what famous person I would end up getting on camera, and at the end of the day, I was with ADRIEN BRODY!!
I was hoping he would pull what he did with Halle Berry at the Academy Awards and slop a kiss on me, but a picture would just have to be enough.
I think it is important to hike, but more important to laugh. So my NEW thing for today is to try to combine the two! I decided to download a podcast from one of my favorite people in the world…..RICKY GERVAIS. You can get his pod-cast by clicking on his website.
He has a podcast that is by far the funniest thing I have heard in years. Wikapedia describes it as…
The Ricky Gervais Show is a comedy audio show in the UK starring Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington. The show started in November 2001 on Xfm, and aired in weekly periods for months at a time throughout 2002, 2003, 2004, and mid-2005. In November 2005, Guardian Unlimited offered the show as a podcast series of 12 shows. Throughout January and February 2006, the podcast was consistently ranked the number one podcast in the world; it appeared in the 2007 Guinness World Record for the world’s most downloaded podcast, having gained an average of 261,670 downloads per episode during its first month.According to the BBC, by September 2006, the podcasts of the series had been downloaded “nearly 8 million” times.
I describe it as just plain wonderful british fun. They are 3 REAL guys conversing about life…. and Ricky and Steven just consistently take the piss ( a british term for razzing) out of their friend Kyle. You see, Kyle is an innocent “dumb guy” who has the most fabulous Forrest Gump perspective on life and never realizes his everyday excerpts of his diary, or his wonderful introspective thoughts, are absolutely hysterical. The best part is that he has NO idea just how funny he is. You really need to hear a few podcasts to get to know and love him. Then you will not be able to stop. But be acareful or you might end up looking like a crazy person on your hike…..
Oh, and i guess I am not the only one that thinks it is brilliant. HBO will be making an animated series out of it starting Feb. 19. Here is a tiny clip.
