NEW THING-try a food NOW that you HATED as a kid!!
This was a suggestion from Craig Gummer–that I try something as an adult that I HATED as a kid! The first thing that came to mind was BRUSSELS SPROUTS. I could not imagine EVER liking these horrible things. I used to hide them under the carpet when I was forced to eat all my “vegetables”. (thank God we had a dog) They were repulsive to me back then, and just the thought of eating them now made me angry that Craig should suggest I be put through that torment all over again….BUT–..my good friend Angela SWORE by a recipe that guaranteed I would like them if prepared as instructed…….I did not believe there was even a WAY to cook brussel sprouts that would make them edible unless you fried them and covered them in chocolate….
BUT—With the help of my good friend (and secret chef) Bernard, we executed this NEW THING challenge with grace and ease,…(and garlic)….Press play and see if I am now a fan of Brussel Sprouts as an adult…….did my feelings change??? Craig this ones for you….

You and Bernard are freaking rock stars, Rachel. Not just something new, but something new with an obstacle, and it’s now behind you. I think this is great!
Hi Rachel…..loved the idea for Brussel Sprounts. I’ll try it. In fact, I asked dad to get some today when he went shopping, and he did. I bet the recipe would work for other veggies too.
Loved the big tip you left too. We talked to Uncle andy and Aunt Mae tonight and she said she cried when she watched it. See how you touch people?
Here are a couple requests I would like to make for trying something new……(do you need any ideas from, like, your Mom????)
How about creating a Mandala? (google Mandala for info.) You could use crayons or markers or whatever…its really pretty easy. Or, still in the art arena, try a quick five minute sketch with your left hand ( helps balance the two sides of the brain, they say)…..you could check out “Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards, for a bunch more ideas along this line. One other one is to draw a quick drawing with colors of a feeling…..just the energy of it, the color of it, the movement and texture of it. Very therapeutic.
And how about taking out the yarn and needles I gave you and trying to knit one of those things in the book I gave you–something quick and easy, but not a scarf–you have done that. Maybe a hat? or whatever……
One new thing would be to start it…….and then later the new thing would be the day you actually finish it…..and maybe another for when you give it to someone?
Have you ever visited old people in a nursing home? Sung for and with them?
Or how about a choral reading? You and a few friends reading something “special” (funny or otherwise) together as a group just for the heck of it?
And(it could be funny) cleaning the top surfaces of a ceiling fan? (known as “spring cleaning”)
Or, have you ever dyed underwear or some other clothing in the washer? some outrageous color?
Well, that is more than enough, but I was inspired. (well, sort of) lots of love mom x0x0x0x0
